John Alan Morgan,
age 73, of Reston, Virginia, passed away on January 14, 2019.
He was born on July
18, 1945, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Silas Robert Morgan and Marion Stern
John is survived by
his wife, Rebecca Ameling Morgan; son, John Bennett Morgan; daughter-in-law,
Zoe Morgan and two granddaughters, Josephine Morgan (18) and Holly Morgan
(15). Locally, he is survived by Morgan cousins Tom Smith and Brendan Smith
and their families.
John managed the
basketball team while at Chesterton High School. He owned and managed
Morganís Hardware in the late 60ís and early 70ís. He was elected to the
Porter County Council in 1974, serving a term and becoming Vice-Chairman of
the Council. On the Council he was an advocate for the South Shore Line and
helped bring the rail service to Chesterton.
John had a Masterís
degree from Valparaiso University and a Bachelorís degree from George
Washington University. He was an expert in demographics and worked in
Republican politics for 50 years. For a time, he was considered the head
targeter for the Republican Party. He served in the Reagan-Bush White House
in the early years and then started his own company, Applied Research
Coordinates, a political consulting company located in Reston, Virginia.
A Mass will be held
on Tuesday, January 29, at 10 a.m., at St. Patrick Church, 638 North Calumet
Road, Chesterton, Indiana 46304. Interment to follow at Chesterton Cemetery
followed by a reception back at St. Patrick Church.
