Richard J. Lee, Jr., age 76 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at his home.

He was born on June 26, 1943, in Gary, IN, to Richard J. and Mary (Baker) Lee.

Richard is survived by children, Lisa (Burt) Biebuyck, Richard J. Lee III, Jennifer (Brian) Miller, Allison (Brandie Harper) Lee; brother, Patrick (Karren) Lee; sister, Wendy Lee; grandchildren, Nathan, Gavin, and Cameron Biebuyck, Christian (Hannah Toth) and Samuel Lee, Brice and Blake Miller, Parker Lee; great-grandsons, Jayden Hayley and Thomas Lee; many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Nancy Lynn Lee; his parents; and sister, Terri Lee.

Richard graduated from East Gary Edison High School, class of 1961, and attended Wabash College. He worked as a Systems Analyst at US Steel and later ArcelorMittal. Richard was a proud member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton for over 40 years. He was a lifelong athlete and became an avid distance runner - journaling each mile - then a fanatical long-distance walker and health and fitness enthusiast following double knee and hip replacements. Richard and Nancy doted on their many, many dog children, all of them rescues. Any human would envy the lifestyle and love they provided. The couple preferred to spend time traveling to their children's homes and recalling beloved family stories, sporting events and performances. Richard was a stickler for accuracy while recounting every date, time and nuanced detail, and for that we loved him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N Calumet Rd., Chesterton, IN 46304. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2019, from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304.

Memorial donations in Richard's honor may be made to the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center, Gift Administration and Business Data, 5235 S. Harper Ct., 4th Floor, Chicago, IL 60615 or to The American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.ee-fh.com
