Service and visitation Wednesday for Karl Himmel

Karl Himmel, age 82 of Porter, IN passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Porter Regional Hospital.

He was born on November 15, 1936 in Chicago, IL.

Karl is survived by his daughter, Karen L. Himmel of Chesterton, IN; his wife’s family and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma (Parker) Himmel; sons, Brian D. Himmel and Stephen C. Himmel; mother, Helen; step-father, Joe Annello; his four brothers, John, Charles, Al and Paul; sisters, Dorothy and Betty.

Karl enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17, at the time of the Korean War. He retired from Inland Steel in 1990. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and watched as many games as possible. Karl always enjoyed cooking and was known for his homemade pies. He had a big heart, willing to help anyone and supported different charities.

A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304. Cremation to follow. Private graveside services to be held at a later date. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Karl’s name to be made to: Opportunity Enterprises, 2801 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, IN 46383 or
