Dorothy F. Jones passes away at age 83

Dorothy F. Jones, age 83 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on March 11, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 20, 1935, to Fred and Myra Weber Brown, both of whom preceded her in death.

In Michigan City, IN, she went to school in a one-room schoolhouse in Beverly Shores, IN, completed elementary and middle school in Chesterton and completed her High School education in Canada. She began college at Bryan University in Dayton, TN, and then transferred to Northwestern University. Dorothy finished her undergraduate training at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. She was also a piano student of Alice Keenlyside and taught private piano and organ lessons to students for over 50 years here in Chesterton.

She was the organist at Liberty Bible Church for over 25 years, served as an organist at Chesterton First Christian church for several years, and served as an organist at the First Church of Christian Science in Chesterton and then in Crown Point for over 25 years.

Surviving are her husband of more than 58 years, David F. Jones; her children: Craig (Rachael) Jones of Chesterton, Beth (Wes) York of Chesterton and Vera Jones of Michigan City; her grandchildren: Elisabeth (Chris) Ruge, Paul Jones and Jason Jones, all of Chesterton; her great-grandchildren: Shannon and Evan Ruge of Chesterton; her sister, LaVera Lambert of Mesa, AZ; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Jones of Chesterton; and her many cousins, including Cindy and Robert Kelly of Chesterton.

She is also preceded in death by her grandson, David A. Jones.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of White-Love Funeral Home, Chesterton, IN.
