Back To Front Page

Zachary William Bucy, 28, of Chesterton, passed away on October 31, 2018, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, following a long and difficult struggle with opioid addiction.

Zack had spent the last several months in a rehabilitation setting where he found a supportive extended family who brought open smiles to his face again, and a happiness and optimism he hadn’t known for a very long time. He touched many lives there, and was loved by many. He said he learned that compassion and helping others was key to his own recovery. Zack’s path was filled with both hope and heartbreak. Sadly, he lost his battle with addiction, like so many before him.

Zack leaves behind his mother, Jill Wayne Bucy, and his father David Bucy, both of Chesterton. He also leaves behind his uncles Craig Wayne (Bonnie), Gary Wayne, and Dean Wayne, his grandfather Wayne Johnson, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Patricia and Jeffrey Johnson, Dorothy Johnson, William Bucy, and his aunt, Debbie Willett.

Zack was a lifelong resident of Chesterton. He graduated from Chesterton High School in 2008 and received his degree from Purdue University. His family and friends will always remember Zachary as an amazing, bright and articulate young man who could take charge of any situation. To all the friends he made throughout the country and beyond, and to anyone else struggling with addiction, Zack’s message would be to “Push Harder”, which was something he would often write on his arm for motivation.

“If you haven’t heard it yet today, I love you.” We will all miss him. Rest in peace, dear Zachary.

A private memorial service for Zachary will be held at a later date.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Zachary’s name to Frontline Foundations, 1008 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304.

Arrangements were handled by Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304.
