Richard Vander Woude, 89 of Chesterton, formerly of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully Friday, February 23, 2018.

He was born August 15, 1928 in South Holland, IL, to Peter and Lizzie (Van Drunen) Vander Woude.

Richard worked as a District Sales Manager for Tappan Company for 25 years and later for M & D Auto Dealer Supply as a Route Sales Manager for 14 years. He was a member of Faith Church in Valparaiso and enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his beloved family. Richard will be remembered by his family as a great Christian husband, father, and role model.

On June 1, 1951, in Illinois, Richard married Esther DeYoung, who survives, along with their children: Patricia (William) Graf of Wheatfield, Duane (Cindy) Vander Woude of Wheatfield, Randall (Lori) Vander Woude of Valparaiso, Keith (Nancy) Vander Woude of Crete, IL, Dean (Lisa) Vander Woude of Valparaiso, David (Julianne) Vander Woude of Grand Rapids, MI; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; sister, Beatrice Siersma; and sister-in-law, Elverna Dykstra.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, Johanna Vander Woude, brother, Richard Dykstra, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018, from 3:00 -- 7:00 p.m., at Valparaiso Nazarene Church, 2702 E. Glendale Blvd.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church, with burial to follow at Angelcrest Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to a church of the donorís choice.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caretakers at Addison Pointe, Dunes Hospice, Dr. Agarwal, and Dr. Espar.
