Schmitt, age 70 of Valparaiso, IN passed away on January 22, 2018, at the
VNA Hospice Center.
She was born on
June 24, 1947, in Portland, Maine to Edward and Mary Seay, both of whom
precede her in death.
On June 28, 1967,
at St. Mary of the Lake in Miller, she married James Anthony Schmitt Sr.,
who survives in Valparaiso.
She is also
survived by her children: Jennifer (Gregory) Lee of Chandler, AZ, James
(Katherine) Schmitt Jr. of Chesterton, IN, Amy (Jeff) Dickey of Salt Lake
City, UT, Daniel (Meaghan) Schmitt of Burns Harbor, IN, and Adam (Sarah)
Schmitt of Columbia City, IN; her grandchildren: Anthony, Evan, Miles, Iris,
Allyson, Eleanor, William, Thomas, and Henry; and by her
She is also
preceded in death by her sisters, Sandra Young and Judith Hartford.
“Her cup runneth
over.” Patricia worked tirelessly and selflessly every day for her family
since 1970. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and traveling out west to see her
daughters. She enjoyed her coffee, quiet mornings, the beach, and her
grandchildren. Patricia enjoyed the simple things in life and always
sacrificed her time and energy for others. She was the best phone and email
friend you could have, and she was a faithful follower of Christ. Whenever
she visited the kids who lived out of state, the night before flying away
she would always hug us and say, “I don’t want to fall asleep because when I
wake up it will all be over!” Now mom, we can say, “It’s not over, it’s just
