Patricia Anne Schmitt, age 70 of Valparaiso, IN passed away on January 22, 2018, at the VNA Hospice Center.

She was born on June 24, 1947, in Portland, Maine to Edward and Mary Seay, both of whom precede her in death.

On June 28, 1967, at St. Mary of the Lake in Miller, she married James Anthony Schmitt Sr., who survives in Valparaiso.

She is also survived by her children: Jennifer (Gregory) Lee of Chandler, AZ, James (Katherine) Schmitt Jr. of Chesterton, IN, Amy (Jeff) Dickey of Salt Lake City, UT, Daniel (Meaghan) Schmitt of Burns Harbor, IN, and Adam (Sarah) Schmitt of Columbia City, IN; her grandchildren: Anthony, Evan, Miles, Iris, Allyson, Eleanor, William, Thomas, and Henry; and by her great-granddaughter, Ava.

She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Sandra Young and Judith Hartford.

“Her cup runneth over.” Patricia worked tirelessly and selflessly every day for her family since 1970. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and traveling out west to see her daughters. She enjoyed her coffee, quiet mornings, the beach, and her grandchildren. Patricia enjoyed the simple things in life and always sacrificed her time and energy for others. She was the best phone and email friend you could have, and she was a faithful follower of Christ. Whenever she visited the kids who lived out of state, the night before flying away she would always hug us and say, “I don’t want to fall asleep because when I wake up it will all be over!” Now mom, we can say, “It’s not over, it’s just beginning”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 10 a.m., at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Ave., Chesterton, IN, 46304. There will be a visitation on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton, IN.

Memorial donations may be given to: The Salvation Army, 799 Capitol Road, Valparaiso, IN, 46385, or to St. Jude, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
