Services Saturday for James Terrance O'Laughlin

James Terrance O’Laughlin, age 83, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away due to complications of cancer on Saturday, June 30, 2018 in Valparaiso, IN.

James was born in Frankfort, IN, on April 15, 1935, to Bernard and Mildred O’Laughlin who preceded him in death.

On April 8, 1961, he married Shirley Ann Echterling, at St. Liborius Church in Steger, IL, who survives of Valparaiso, IN.

He is also survived by his daughter, Kellie (Manuel) Mallas and her children, Lauren Mallas (Ed Werner), Rachel who is expecting (Jason) VanDyke and Maureen Mallas; daughter Colleen (Jeff) Sterling and her children, Natalie (Elliott) Lloyd, Mary Kate, Lindsay and Emily Sterling; son Kevin (Tracy) O’Laughlin and his children, Ryan (Kayla) O’Laughlin and their child, Raylen, and son Conor O’Laughlin; son, Dan (Michelle) O’Laughlin and his children, Calea and Carter O’Laughlin; son, Tom (Valerie) O’Laughlin and his children, Erin, Kate, Tim, and Dan and his sister, Lee Ann Strain, and multiple nieces and nephews.

James served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. He was a semi-pro bull rider and he also worked for the E. J. & E. Railroad and Gallagher Asphalt for 30 years. James was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a marriage class facilitator. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper and he also enjoyed wood working and auto mechanics.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton, IN, 46304, with Father Jon Plavcan and Father Nate Edquist officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304.
