Services Monday for Lawrence 'Larry' Long, 90

Lawrence “Larry” Long, age 90 of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018.

He was born on July 3, 1927, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to Wilbur and Clara (Krogmeier) Long.

Larry is survived by his children, Steve (Julie) Long of St. Louis, MO, Peggy (Joe) Welage of Greenfield, IN, Joe Long of West Palm Beach, FL, and Phil (Leigh) Long of Porter, IN; 11 siblings, Larry was the oldest of 15 children; grandchildren, Christine Kindo, Michelle Jackson, Greg Welage, Kaelyn Leach, Anna, Matt and Lauren Long; great-grandchildren, Hannah Kindo, Martin Jackson, and one on the way, Caleb Kindo; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Howard and Rich Long; and daughter-in-law, Candice.

Larry was a teacher for over 20 years in Chesterton and Michigan City. He was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the St. Pats Prayer Group and the Rosary Makers. Larry was devoted to the Rosary and attended mass daily. He was also a member of the Merchant Marines and a U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid camper, hiker, musician and songwriter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton, Indiana, 46304, at 10:00 a.m., with Father Jon Plavcan officiating.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass at 10:00 a.m., at the church. Larry will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Manhattan, Illinois with a private family service.

Memorial donations in Larry’s honor may be made to The Sisters of St. Francis, P.O. Box 766, Mishawaka, Indiana, 46546.
