Vera Jeannene Baur
was born on May 16, 1932, in Alton, IL, to Angelica and Erwin Westerhold.
She was raised in
St. Louis, MO. Upon graduating from Valparaiso University in 1954, she
married a fellow classmate, Walter Baur, and moved to Washington, DC.
In 1956 they moved
to St. Louis where son Ken was born. Three more children followed; Amy in
1959, Jill in 1962, and Constance in 1963. There was another move in 1960 to
Chesterton to become proprietors of the Ben Franklin Store, where Jeannene
managed the clothing dept. She retired from retail in 1987, and became the
bookkeeper for the Chamber of Commerce. Jeannene was involved in numerous
clubs and committees, among them the Beautification Committee, Kappa Kappa
Kappa Chapter, Women’s Missionary League, Chamber of Commerce Board of
Directors, Meals on Wheels, and the Westchester Food Pantry. In 1989 she was
awarded the Athena Award from the Chamber. She enjoyed quilting, writing,
walking in the Dunes and traveling with her husband.
She is survived by
her husband, Walter, and three children; Ken (Pat) Baur, Amy (Brian) Boldon
and Constance (Alan) Bulley; grandchildren, Bill (Tracie) Hugunin and Kris
Hugunin, Sam Boldon, Alex, Oliver (Chelsea), Theodore, Johanna, Jill and
Grace Bulley as well as three great-grandchildren.
There will be a
memorial service held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1237 East Coolspring
Avenue, Michigan City, IN, 46360, on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 12:00 p.m.,
with a memorial visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
