Daniel Alan Hager, 66, passed away at home in the presence of family and a sunset on Monday, June 11, 2018.

His memorial visitation will be from 1-3 p.m., with service beginning at 3 p.m., on Saturday, June 23, at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road in Valparaiso, Indiana.

Daniel was born in Gary on September 25, 1951, to Elizabeth and Lawrence Hager. His life took a joyous turn on March 30, 1974, when he married Christina Arch of Saginaw, Michigan. They were happily married 44 years raising two boys, Timothy Alan residing in Munster, Indiana, and Scott Lawrence in Johns Creek, Georgia.

Daniel was a member of the National Guard before becoming a 48-year Millwright at Bethlehem and ArcelorMittal Steel. His peers have said, "if you needed something fixed or done right, you called Dan." His ingenuity and can-do spirit made him a tremendous asset as indicated by the people he impacted over the years. His many hobbies included fishing, classic car restoration, riding his Harley, reading western novels, RV travel, visiting his grandchildren and enjoying the company of family and friends at summer cookouts.

His family paid this tribute to him, "those privileged to befriend Dan knew he was tough on the outside but on the inside he was a kind, loving and gentle soul. He surrounded himself with good friends with whom he would go to great lengths to help. Dan struggled many years with a bad back, but weve come to realize it is because he would break it for anyone in need. His life was tragically taken far too early and he will be dearly missed by all."

He is survived by his two Sons, Jean Arch (Mother-in-law), Kathleen (Sister) and Cliff Sherrard (Brother-in-law), Carl (Brother) and Lillian Hager (Sister-in-law), Chris Stoettner-Hager and Lauren Devine-Hager (Daughter-in-laws), Victoria and Logan (Grandchildren) and his beloved Basset Hound, Gracie. He is preceded in death by his Wife, Mother and Father.

Donations can be made in Dans name to the ASPCA via, in lieu of flowers.
