Memorial Service Saturday for Edward Harold McConnell

Edward Harold McConnell, also known as Gadget, 71, passed away on September 13, 2018.

A veteran of the Vietnam War. Edward was born on January 7, 1947, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, to Kenneth McConnell and Frankie McConnell (Ligget).

In 1966, he joined the Air Force and served in the Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. Edward was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a patient and loving father. He married Verla Greenbush in Estes Park, Colorado in 1970. Edward worked at Bethlehem Steel for 30 years and then retired. Edward spent many years helping and serving Active Duty, Veterans, and those less fortunate. He worked many fundraisers, helped with projects such as wheel chair ramps, shipping packages to active duty military, helped provide Christmas for less fortunate children. He has stood many flag lines and/or rode in many escorts for Active and Veteran military. He was active with the Indiana Patriot Guard. He served as a member of the Wall Gang and Guardian Riders. He was currently a member of Operation Serving Heroes.

He is survived by his wife, Verla; his sons, Gregory (Donna) and Fredrick; his brother Kenneth Earl McConnell (Margaret) of Michigan; his seven grandchildren; and his four great-grandchildren. He is survived by many, nieces and nephews, extended family and close family friends who all loved and adored him.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial college fund will be gathered. Please write all checks to Road to Life Church/College Fund.

A Celebration of Life will be September 29, 2018, at Road to Life Church, 7056 W 450 N Michigan City, Indiana. The memorial visitation will be at 10:30 a.m., the memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m.
