Memorial Service Friday for Karen Lee Hofman

Karen Lee Hofman, 77, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 11:03 a.m., Sunday, October 21, 2018, at VNA Hospice Center, LaPorte.

She was born October 3, 1941, in Gary, Indiana, to Charles and Stella (Winkowski) Gorgol.

Karen was a recording secretary for Bethlehem Steel and Berry Bearings, both for five years, and was a former member and secretary of Agape Christian Church, La Porte. She enjoyed collecting angels and birdhouses. Karen was a family advocate of her family, always keeping them in touch with each other. She was a loving wife, sister and grandmother.

On July 31, 1971, in Chesterton, Indiana, she married Jilles Eric “Joe” Hofman, who survives.

Also surviving are her son, Kevin (Marilyn) Hupertz of La Porte; two sisters, Gail Schmaus of IL, and Lynn (John) Hofman of FL; one brother, Robert Gorgol of FL; two grandchildren, Michael Green and Max Hupertz; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Wayne Hupertz; three brothers, Charles E. Gorgol, Charles P. Gorgol and Edward Gorgol; nephew, Michael Schmaus; mother-in-law, Gladys Hupertz; mother and father-in-law, Flossie and John Hofman.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2018, at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100 with Pastor Craig Forwalter officiating.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Pine Lake Cemetery at a later date.
