Services Wednesday for Ronald Wayne Race, 70

Ronald Wayne Race, age 70, of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Chesterton, IN, passed away at his home on July 19, 2017.

Ron was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. He was born May 27, 1947, to Frank and Justynne (nee Tamo) Race.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Charlene (nee Schoenfelt) Race of Bradenton, FL; beloved daughter, Michele (Christopher) Race-Dillingham and grandchildren, Collin, Julia and Evan, all of Bradenton, FL and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank Race Jr.

Ron graduated from Tolleston High School in Gary, IN, Class of 1965. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Ron retired after 37 years from U.S. Steel in the sheet & tin mill. After retirement he worked for Arnell Chevrolet, Inc., in Chesterton, IN. Ron loved his family and cherished his grandchildren. His greatest joys were his grandkids. Ron also loved boating, the Yankees and going to the casino. He loved sparring with the Dillingham family about the Cubs vs. Yankees. He will be greatly missed by his entire family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Ron’s name be made to Centerstone of Manatee Glens, 391 6th Avenue West, Brandenton, FL, 34205.
