Services Saturday for 'Annette' Brooks, age 75

Ruby “Annette” Brooks, age 75 of Porter, passed away on October 2, 2017, at her home.

She was born on June 17, 1942, in Jacksonville, FL, to Rubin C. and Virginia Jeanette Starling, both of whom preceded her in death.

In 1965, she married William H. “Bill” Brooks who preceded her in death.

Ruby is survived by her children: Anthony “Andy” T. Brooks of Hamlet, IN, Joseph D. “Dean” Brooks of Wisconsin, and Christopher (Jane) Brooks of Porter, IN; her daughter-in-law, Kimberly Brooks of North Judson, IN; her siblings: Grandle (Charlotte) Starling of South Daytona Beach, FL, Lamar (Patty) Starling of Jacksonville, FL, and Elaine Brady of Easley, SC; her grandchildren: Charlene Benoit, Cory Potter, River Brooks, Danielle Brooks, and Cody and Sophia Brooks; and by her two great-grandchildren, Raven Jeffers and Dougie Sutterland.

She is also preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Starling.

Ruby was a member of the Zeta Lamda Chapter of the Sigma Lamda sorority. She also enjoyed playing with her Bridge Club. Annette was known as the “Hosta Lady” and had a reputation for being an exceptional gardener. She loved to travel, especially to the south to visit her family. Annette was an avid Elvis fan and enjoyed attending as many impersonator shows as she could. She was a big-hearted lady and leaves behind many special friends. Annette loved her grandkids deeply and was their number-one fan, attending as many football games, baseball games, cheer competitions, and theater productions as possible. She was also a very special aunt to her nieces Kayla, Erin and Ginger, who she loved whole-heartedly. Annette was a “professional” shopper when she traveled with her beloved sister, Elaine-the Louise to her Thelma.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 11 a.m., at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South Second Street, Chesterton.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 6, 2017, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be given to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, IN, 46383.
