Services Friday for Wayne A. McClellan, Sr.

Wayne A. McClellan, Sr., 90, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017.

He was born June 17, 1927, in Colfax, IL, to Harvey and Jessie (Vetter) McClellan.

Wayne graduated from Valparaiso High School, Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, then served in the US Navy during WWII, and worked at Philip’s Appliance and RW Poole & Co. His work also took him and his family to Australia doing commercial gas conversions for Stone & Webster. Wayne was known to be able to “fix almost anything” and enjoyed giving back to children and the community by serving on the Chesterton School Board from 1978-1986.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn. He was a devoted father to Wayne, Jr., Valparaiso, Sharilyn Smith, Pella, IA, Joyce (William) Nicholson, Portage, and Shirley (Robert) Dockery, Hammond; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many he helped raise while in his 70’s and 80’s; and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara (Robert) Hardesty; and nephew, James Hardesty.

Wayne was a kind-hearted man who would do anything for others, loved being a dedicated father figure to many, and shared his quick, witty humor with everyone around him.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 3:00-7:00 p.m., at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a Funeral Service on Friday, September 8, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the VNA Hospice of NWI.
