William Charles Nixon of Dune Acres, IN passed away at the age of 83 in Naples, FL February 27, 2017 of natural causes.

He is survived by his wife Lois L. Nixon, a sister Marian Schrah of Wayzata, MN, and his five children by his first wife Judith E. Nixon, of Burlington, VT; Terri Brennan (Terry) of Grapevine, TX; Cindy Rios (Jim) of West Dundee, IL; Greg Nixon of Burlington, VT; Becky Nixon of Chicago, IL; Jennifer Mathis (Erik) of Dedham, MA. He also had two stepsons, Cary Allen (Trang) of Portland, OR, and Terry Allen (Kim) of Valparaiso, IN. Four grandchildren: Caitlin Brennan, Greyson Shropshire, Catie Rios and Jake Rios. He is also survived by a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack C. and Rosalind R. Nixon, and his older brother Jack.

Bill was born in Adrian, Michigan, in 1933. His family lived in Wamplers Lake, Brooklyn, MI, and in South Haven, Michigan, where Bill graduated from Central High School in 1951.

He graduated from Western Michigan University in 1955 with a degree in Engineering and was commissioned as a Quartermaster into the U.S. Army. He served two years at Fort Lee, VA, and three years in Ansbach, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1960.

He worked for the Trane Co., General Foods Corp and Grand Union, where he rose to senior management before retiring in 1998. He moved back to South Haven, MI, where he was elected to the city council. In 2002 he moved to Dune Acres, IN, where he was involved in the town council and where he resided through his final days.

Memorial services will be private.
