Nelly Koladin passes away

Back To Front Page

Nelly Koladin’s fiery spirit departed this Earth on Tuesday, May 2, to join her beloved husband of 42 years, who passed before her in 1987.

She was a courageous, kind and inspiring woman who was adored by most all who she came in contact with. Cheerful and witty, she touched the lives of those she met in both small and profound ways, whether being a dear, close friend or simply by baking pastries for family, friends, or even acquaintances.

She was born Nella Montorsi in Hyange, France, to Joseph and Alice Montorsi (Balconi) on January 14th, 1924. She was raised in Alsace, Lorraine, France and she immigrated to the United States after marrying the love of her life, Joseph Koladin, who was an American soldier in WWII.

Nelly had an intense passion for music, especially Italian Opera, and she was serenaded by her favorite, Luciano Pavarotti as she passed on. Nelly was an undaunted and optimistic woman who could make the best out of any situation. She had been a nurse and a chef, but the titles she was most proud of were wife, mother, grandma (Nana) and great-grandma.

Her legacy of compassion, generosity and vivaciousness will live on in the hearts of her children, Christiane (Jean Francois) Chauvelin, Evelyne (Joseph) Dacey, Dan (Terry) Koladin and Lisa (Michael) Scheiber, her grandchildren, Patrick (Fabienne) Weller, Christophe Weller, Christie (Jon) Iacovetti, David Dacey, Tania (Adam) Ballou, Daniel Koladin, and Denise (Robert) Freeman, 16 great-grandchildren, and many, many friends.

Everyone was considered family to herÉ A heartfelt “Thank You” to all who cared for her in her final days, especially the incredible staff and volunteers at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on a later date with details forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to VNA Hospice in Valparaiso, IN.

Arrangements were handled by Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304.
