Ronald L. Groff,
age 80, of Chesterton, IN, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017.
He was born on June
3, 1937, in Chesterton, to Felix and Philomena (Phyllis) (Wiesemann) Groff.
He is survived by
his daughter, Margo (Tim) Winey of Chesterton; sisters, Patricia Johnson of
Chesterton and Joanne Marcoff of Hobart, IN; granddaughter, Paige (Jason)
Scheuer; brother-in-law and fishing buddy, Roger (Geraldine) Hewitt of
Chesterton, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, Felix and Phyllis; wife, Rochelle (Hewitt) Groff;
grandson, Mitchell Winey; brothers, Eugene, Robert, and Richard Groff, and
sisters, Maxine Mead, and Barbara Whitton.
Ron served in the
U.S. Army Reserves and retired from Inland Steel after a life threatening
accident. Ron is remembered as a selfless, kind and gentle soul who always
put others before himself. Despite his physical condition, he always
maintained a positive can-do attitude and sense of humor. Ron was an
outdoors enthusiast enjoying hunting and fishing and their balance of
conservation. Traveling was another passion which he and Rochelle enjoyed
together. They especially loved to spend time in the mountains camping,
hiking, fishing and watching for wildlife. Ron was thrilled to have taken
some recent trips to Colorado to spend time with his grandchildren and teach
them how to fly fish. Here at home, he loved spending time with his best
little buddy, Cooper.
Memorial services
will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at Edmonds and Evans
Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN. Family and friends will gather
at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m.

memorial donations may be made to the Mitchell A. Winey Scholarship Fund
through Centier Bank, 103 Broadway, Chesterton, IN, 46304.
