Margaret Lorraine Ray passes away at age 91

Margaret Lorraine Ray, born and raised in Chesterton, died Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Orchard Park Memory Care in League City, Texas. She was 91.

Lorraine established and successfully operated Ray’s Tots to Teens children's wear store located at 127 Calumet Road for 27 years. She was married to Harry Ray, former Chesterton Postmaster, for 55 years who died in 2002.

Lorraine was active in politics serving as a Precinct Chairman, being elected to the Westchester Township Board, serving as a Ted Kennedy delegate to the Democratic National Convention in New York and serving on committees dedicated to the Westchester Schools and local hospital. After their retirement, Lorraine and Harry enjoyed exploring in their RV, going on cruises and traveling throughout Europe.

She is survived by her daughter Antoinette “Tonie” Hanson and her husband Gary of League City, Texas, grandson Ian Ray Hanson, his wife Tara, their children Lindsey and Tyler of La Grange Park, Illinois, granddaughter Erica “Robyn” Brennan, her husband Dustan, their son Bryan of Houston, Texas, nieces and nephews, Jerry and Chris Taubert of Michigan, Janet Taubert of Chicago, John and Karen Taubert and their four children of Chicago, Karen Schweir and husband Dan Czerniak of Missouri, Susan Schweir and Richard Knoelke and their three children of Wisconsin, Gregg and Suzi Schweir and their three children of Tennessee, Edward and Carole Demmy and their two daughters of North Carolina, and family, Jewel Ellen Demmy Vensel, her daughter and granddaughter of Pennsylvania.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Rozella Schweir, her sister Winnie Taubert, who also worked at the Chesterton Post Office, Winnie’s husband Thomas, and her brother John Schweir.
