Jimmie O'Neal Hunter passes away at age 82

Jimmie O’Neal Hunter, 82, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center, Wilmington.

He was born in Kenansville, NC, on June 3, 1935, son of the late Sidney Hunter and Molcey Blizzard Hunter.

Mr. Hunter was a loving father, doting grandfather, and a true gentleman to the end.

He served two terms in the United States Army. Jimmie worked at US Steel in Gary, Indiana, until he retired in 2000.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his wife, Linda.

Surviving are his children, Lori Hunter Evans and husband Donald and children, Lauren and Hunter all of Greensboro, NC, Carol-Lyn Hunter Kollar and husband Robert and children Amanda, Hannah, and Andie, all of Chesterton, IN; Gregory Hunter and wife Stephanie and their son Jamison all of Indianapolis, IN; and a sister, Jean Henshaw and Mike McCormick, of Oak Island, NC.

Special loving thanks and gratitude to his wonderful nieces, nephew and their families, for the unwavering love, laughter and support.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, NC, with Rev. Steve Mattis officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28401.
