Evia Mae Johnston passes away at age 102

Evia Mae Johnston, age 102 of Culver, IN, formerly of Chesterton, IN, passed away on October 13, 2017 in Culver, IN.

She was born on October 28, 1914, in Windsor, IL to Everet and Mabel Linnabary, both of whom preceded her in death.

Evia is survived by her daughters, Valerie Hite of Culver, IN and Vivian Hendricks of North Judson, IN; her grandchildren, Colleen Salzer of Kalamazoo, MI, Christi (Paul) Bennett of Demotte, IN, and David (Jessica) Hite of Culver, IN; and by her great-grandchildren, Abby Bennett, Aurora Hite-Stotler, Nathan Bennett, and David Hite.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Johnston on April 26, 1998, and by her brothers, Arnold Linnabary and Donald Linnabary.

Evia was a seventy-five year member of the First United Methodist Church in Chesterton. She was also active in the Rachel Circle and the Porter County Home Extension.

She loved to sew, cook, and craft. She also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her rose garden. Spending time with her grandchildren was one of her favorite hobbies.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Chesterton Cemetery with Pastor Tami Boggs officiating.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Evia’s name to the First United Methodist Church in Chesterton, 434 S. 2nd St, Chesterton, IN, 46304.

Arrangements are under the direction of White-Love Funeral Home, Chesterton.
