Celebration of Life Sunday for Joan Knibbs

Joan Knibbs, age 86 of Porter, passed away on September 29, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on October 8, 1930, in Chicago, IL, to John and Harriet Shaddon, both of whom preceded her in death.

On July 16, 1955, in Chicago, IL, she married Loren John Knibbs who survives in Porter.

She is also survived by her children: Charles Loren (Mary Lou) Knibbs of Chicago, IL, Donald William (Anne) Knibbs of Chicago, IL, James John (Leigh) Knibbs of Chicago, IL, Susan Mary Knibbs of Chicago, IL, Kenneth Ray Knibbs of Chicago, IL, Richard Paul Knibbs of Chicago IL, and Doreen (Jim) Knibbs Bernard of Tinley Park, IL; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Joan was an active member of Porter United Methodist Church. She worked tirelessly on behalf of the Westchester Neighbors Food Pantry for more than twenty years. She worked as a Registered Nurse for many years, and later founded the Duneland Medical Loan Closet. She was a member of Fenger High School and then Morgan Park High School’s Local School Councils. She volunteered at the Maple Morgan Park Food Pantry as well as Contact Chicago Crisis Hotline and was also a volunteer usher at Chicago Theater. She drove for Illinois Wings and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Friends of the Dunes and Save the Dunes and worked on many of their volunteer activities including the annual Native Plants Sale and keeping hiking trails clean at Indiana Dunes State Park.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Porter United Methodist Church, 100 E Beam St., Porter, IN, 46304, at 2 p.m. with a visitation from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church. Pastor Dee Miller will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to your local food pantry.
