Celebration of Life Saturday for Marie Baur Kluth, 102

Marie Baur Kluth, age 102, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017, in Chesterton, Indiana. She was born May 12, 1915, in Porter, IN, to Frank and Amanda Peterson.

Marie spent most of her life in Chesterton. She married Walter Baur, Sr. of Chesterton, on June 8, 1941. Together they had two children. In 1962, the family moved to North Palm Beach, FL. Walter passed away in 1973. Marie returned to Chesterton upon her marriage to Herbert Kluth in November, 1985.

Marie is survived by son Eddie Baur (Susan) of The Plains, Virginia, daughter Nanci Baur of Chesterton, stepson Walter Baur, Jr. (Jeannine) of Chesterton, granddaughter, Julie Cocotas (Peter) of Tallahassee, Florida, sister-in-law Corrine Peterson of LaPorte, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Amanda Peterson, first husband Walter Baur, Sr., second husband Herbert Kluth, siblings infant sister Clara Lucille, Bob Peterson, Helen Wahl, Paul Peterson, Frances Peterson, Grace Dolk, Roy Peterson and recently sister-in-law Millie Peterson.

Upon graduation from Chesterton High School, Marie attended beautician school in Chicago. She worked as a beautician in Chicago and then in Chesterton until her marriage to Walter. She became a homemaker and on occasion sold popcorn and candy at the movie theater Walter owned. She was also a past Matron of the Eastern Star.

Marie was a lifelong member of Augsburg Lutheran Church. She had a great faith in God and loved reading her Bible. Marie was always active and enjoyed the outdoors. She enjoyed sailing with Walter, family, and friends. As a young girl, her father made a tennis court on their property. She took tennis up again in her 50ís and added golf in her 60ís. She continued enjoying tennis by watching it on TV and cheering on her favorite player, Roger Federer. She loved spending time in the summer at the family property just outside of Glen Arbor, MI. She continued into her 80ís making the 6-hour drive there by herself. And she would get the big old tractor out and mow the fields. She also enjoyed knitting, crafts, playing cards and especially getting together with family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 5, at 11:00 a.m., at Augsburg Lutheran Church, 100 N. Mineral Springs Rd., Porter, IN, 46304.

Donations in memory of Marie may be made to Augsburg Lutheran Church, the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
