Celebration of Life October 1 for Ivan Shkurko, age 71

Ivan Shkurko, 71, of Chesterton Indiana passed away unexpectedly on September 7, 2017 in Valparaiso, Indiana.

He was born in 1946 in Hanover, Germany, to Ivan and Eugenia Schkurkay.

Ivan was a graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, with a Masters in Mathematics from the University of California, Long Beach. A lifelong educator, Ivan worked for Project SEED assisting math teachers with better ways to teach their subject. He was active throughout his life as a marathoner, bicyclist, gardener, and trivia buff. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

He is survived and will be missed by his brother, Eugene (Valerie Tobin) Shkurko of Fairport, NY, and his sister Tania (Tim) Sanders of Porter, Indiana. He is also survived by his nieces Larissa and Chelsea and his nephews Paul, Levi, Shane, and Andrew. Also, grandniece Samantha and grandnephews Joseph and Joshua.

A memorial brunch will be held on October 1, 2017, at Riley’s Rail House in Chesterton, Indiana, to allow his family and many friends to gather and celebrate his life.

At Ivan’s request, memorial gifts may be made to the VNA Hospice Center, 2404 Valparaiso Street, Valparaiso, IN, 46383.
