Arthur W. Goodwin
of Chesterton passed away peacefully in his home on the evening of May 22,
2017, after a full life of 96 years.
Arthur was born
July 7, 1920, in New Orleans, LA, to Lillian Helen Dalrymple (aka Mother
Goose) and Arthur Wagner Goodwin.
He is also preceded
in death by his wife, Louise Goodwin (n¸e Bowen) and sister Lillian Helen
He is survived by
three sons, Robert Wagner (Patricia) Goodwin, of Hawaii, Stephen Wesley
Goodwin, of Slidell, LA. and Gary William Goodwin, of Chesterton, IN; four
stepchildren, Thomas (Cheryl) Kemp, of Highland, IN, Susan Dresher, Cheryl
(Jim) Romanak, of Chesterton and William (Debbi) Kemp Jr.; and numerous
step-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Arthur grew up in
New Orleans, and spent the first 40 years of his life along the Gulf Coast.
He fished the Gulf Coast and the New Orleans bayous, attended college in New
Orleans, married and had three sons before leaving that part of the country.
He graduated as a Chemical Engineer from Tulane University in time to
contribute to the war effort, running an ammonium nitrate plant. Ultimately,
he began work for Amoco Oil, at the Texas City Refinery initially. He
relocated to Indiana in 1960, working first at the Whiting Refinery, then at
the Standard Oil building in Chicago until his retirement. You could usually
find him on a golf course, or taking the family on a fishing trip to
Wisconsin or Minnesota. In retirement, he golfed and traveled extensively
with his wife, Louise. They traveled everywhere in the North American
Continent in an RV together and explored other continents too. They were
both avid birders and kept an impressive life list from the many RV
expeditions. Arthur was a kind, generous man, who lived a long full life.
There will be no
funeral services scheduled. Arrangements were handled by Edmonds & Evans
