Services Wendesday for Mark J. Lawson, age 56

Mark J. Lawson, age 56 of Porter, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016, at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso.

He was born on February 27, 1960 in Valparaiso, IN, to George and Betty Lawson, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, who he married on October 10, 1981.

He is also survived by his children: Becky (Steve) Schiller, age 32 of Portage, Jessica Lawson, age 32 of Chesterton, Emma Lawson, age 27 of Porter, and Jacob (Kala) Lawson, age 26 of Hawaii, and by his grandchildren, Lillie age 4, Adelynn age 1, and one on the way.

Also surviving are his siblings, Pattie (Rick) Steen of Burns Harbor, Jan (Norm) Mantel of Modesto, CA, Gege (Tim) Quinn of Westville; his black lab, Bella; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mark was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton, where he occasionally served as a Deacon. He was a member of Union Local 81, a member of Saint Joseph Menís Club, and a member of the Cooperators Circle. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and found great joy in riding his bicycle. He was also a handyman and loved fishing. He always went out of his way to help others.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 638 North Calumet Road, Chesterton, with Father James Meade officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Melanoma Research Foundation, 1411 K St. NW #800, Washington, DC 20005, or to the Lawson family.
