Lindquist, 86, passed away on January 21, 2016, at Chesterton Manor Nursing
Home in Chesterton, IN.
He was born on
April 23, 1929, in Porter, IN, to John and Margaret (Sullivan) Lindquist.
Agnes Bateman on April 18, 1953, in Baltimore, MD. They were happily married
for 62 years.
Philip grew up in
Porter, IN. He graduated from Chesterton High School in 1947. After high
school he worked at Standard Oil in Whiting, IN. He joined the Army on
January 19, 1951, and served until October 18, 1952. He was a Korean War
Veteran. He received the Korean Service Medal and a Bronze Star. Philip was
a member of Saint Patrick’s Church his entire life. He served on the Parish
Counsel, taught CCD, and was an usher. He returned to work at Standard Oil
after his Army service until 1960. He then worked at Midwest (US) steel in
Burns Harbor, IN until he retired in 1992.
Philip was preceded
in death by his parents, John and Margaret Lindquist; siblings Raymond,
Jack, June, and Mary June; and grandsons Robbie Bend and Nicholas Weimer.
Philip is survived
by his loving wife Agnes of Chesterton, IN; his brother Gordon Lindquist; he
was a loving father of five children, Mary Weimer (Daryl), Patty Holman,
Gerry, John (Linda) and Phyllis Bend (Jim); 11 grandchildren and 7
great-grandchildren. In his retirement he enjoyed working on projects in his
garage and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A visitation will
be held Tuesday, January 26, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary
service at 7:30 p.m., at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway,
A mass of Christian
burial will be held at Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., at St.
Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N Calumet Road, Chesterton IN with Father James
Meade officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery.
