Services Tuesday for Janet R. Johnson

Janet R. Johnson, age 86 of Chesterton, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in Michigan City.

She was born on July 29, 1930, to Oscar and Elsie Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death.

On June 23, 1951, in Valparaiso, she married Robert Johnson who preceded her in death on September 17, 2015.

She is survived by her children Robert (Karen) Johnson Jr. of Portage, Scott A. Johnson of Chesterton, Karen (John) Taubert of Chesterton, and Sandy Johnson of Chesterton. Her grandchildren Lisa (G) Bury, Lucas (Erica), Isaac, Elliot (Nicole), Leon (Brittany), Cedric (Tayler), Keri, Michelle (Tom) Daniels, and Michael, Taylor, Isaiah, Miranda, Riley, Leslie, Eli, Anna (CJ Morse), Holly (Chris) Marcero, Kylie (Kevin Heerema), Ian, and Britta. Her sixteen great-grandchildren, her twin sister, Virginia (Fred) DeBruzzi of Valparaiso, and her sister-in-law, Doris Dougherty are also surviving.

She is also preceded in death by her son, Dale A. Johnson, by her brother, Clyde Johnson, and by her sisters: Helen Hibbetts, Lois Hook, Mildred Hutchinson, Dorothy Krachey, and Ruth King.

Janet was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and a member of WELCA. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose in Chesterton. She worked many years at Dreswell Cleaners and helped at the family business, Johnson Service, for many years. Playing the piano and organ were her favorite hobbies, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at 11 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 West 1100 North, Chesterton, with Pastor Erik Grayvold officiating.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund.
