Helen Marie Jandura,
age 90, of Chesterton, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at the VNA
Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Helen was born in
East Chicago, Indiana, on March 27, 1925, grew up in Gary and moved to
Chesterton in 1993.
She was preceded in
death by her parents, Steve J. and Helen Jandura, brothers Richard and
Steve, sisters-in-law Marian and Geraldine and her nephew Brian.
Helen is survived
by her brothers George and John (Betty), nephews Richard (Buffy) and Thomas
(Patricia), nieces Robin Carr (Eddie) and Lynne Armstrong (Douglas), and
nine great nieces and nephews.
She was a member of
St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton, formerly a member of Holy Trinity
Catholic Church in Gary, Indiana, serving on the Parish Council and various
committees for the Gary Diocese. Helen attended Holy Trinity grade school
and Gary Froebel High School, class of 1943. She earned her Nursing Degree
from St. Catherine School of Nursing in 1946. Her passion was the children
she cared for in the pediatrics unit at St. Catherine Hospital in East
Chicago, Indiana, completing 42 years of service. During World War II, Helen
enlisted in the Cadet Nursing Corps (1943-46). She was an active member of
the Phi Eta Sigma Nursing Sorority.
will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 12 o’clock (noon) at Saint
Patrick Catholic Church at 638 North Calumet Road, Chesterton, Father James
Meade officiating. Services will conclude at the church, a luncheon will
follow at the Spa Event Center. Private burial at Calumet Park Cemetery,
Monday, February 8.
The family will
receive friends on Friday, February 5, 2016, at the White-Love Funeral Home,
525 South 2nd Street in Chesterton, Indiana, from 3:00-8:00 p.m., with a
Rosary service at 7:30 p.m.
