Bruce B. Smith, 83, of Fishers, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.

He was born on December 23, 1932, to Arthur and Naomi (Burtner) Smith in Marshfield, Missouri.

Bruce was a 1950 graduate of Chesterton High School, earned a Bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University, and his Master's degree from Purdue University. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, and worked as an Executive Engineer for Inland Steel for 32 years, retiring in 1993. Bruce was a giving, family man, and loved them dearly. He spent time building homes with Nomads (mission volunteers through the United Methodist Church), and went on several youth mission trips. Bruce was a jack-of-all trades, often seen with a hammer in his hand, helping with construction projects. He enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri, but he was never happier than when sailing on Lake Michigan with family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joanne K. Smith; son, William (Gene) Murray; daughter, Judy (Rob) Kittridge; daughter, Karen (Roger) Karmolinski; daughter, Kathy (Thomas) Durand; and son, John (Judith) Lowery; grandchildren, Kellie (Phil) Borth, Chris (Missi) Smith, Jaime (Robert) Unate-Martin, Brandon (Rosalind) Murray, Elizabeth (Arturo) Alfaro, Tyler Kittridge, Andrew Kittridge, Rich (Jennie) Case, Lauren Case, Madeleine Durand, Christian Durand, Claire Durand, Johnathon Lowery, and Thomas Lowery; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. John Smith; sister-in-law, Virginia York; brother-in-law, Michael Anton; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Mike and Carol Delisio and their children, Tom, Beth, Jill and Katie.

In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his son, Steven Smith; brother, Charles Smith; sister, Marna Kredlo; and brother-in-law, Robert Anton.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. EDT (11:00 a.m. CDT) on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Cyntheanne Christian Church, 13151 Cyntheanne Road, in Fishers, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service. Rev. Larry J. Renihan and Rev. Bob Case will officiate. Bruce's care has been entrusted to Randall and Roberts Funeral Homes.
