Services Monday for Ivan 'Rex' Miller, 82

Ivan “Rex” Miller, age 82, of Hobart and formerly of Hammond, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, in his home surrounded by his family.

Rex was born October 26, 1933, in Stewart, Indiana, to the late William and Ruby (Cole) Miller.

Rex retired from Talos Manufacturing in Chesterton, IN, after 38 years of service. In his early years Rex enjoyed fishing, which means he spent most of his time fishing, baiting hooks and removing fish for his children and, later, grandchildren. He also loved spending time with his family and watching the occasional Cub’s game, especially if they won. He played countless card and board games and enjoyed listening to old Hymns and Southern Gospel music and watching Jimmy Swaggart on TV.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Georgia Miller (nee Williams); his seven children, Steven (Barbara) Miller of Lake Station, Ronald (Sharon) Miller of Hobart, Diana (Ronald) Dunn of DeMotte, Mark (Ruth) Miller of Gary, Leslie Miller of Hobart, Timothy (Jeanette) Miller of Gary, and Joseph (Kristina) Miller of Whiting; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; and his sister Nancy Hatch of Merrillville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, seven sisters, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2016, at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana, 46342, with Pastor Tom Potter officiating. Burial will follow in Redwood Cemetery, West Lebanon, Indiana.

Friends and family may visit on Sunday, July 31, 2016, from noon until 5:00 p.m.
