Services Monday for Ernest P. Gonzalez

Ernest P. Gonzalez, age 79 of Chesterton, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Porter Regional Hospital.

He was born on November 13, 1936, in East Chicago, IN, to Cruz and Frances Gonzalez, both of whom preceded him in death.

On February 9, 1991, at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, he married Judith L. Kolish Gonzalez, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by his children: Monica Turner of West Jefferson, OH, Dena Sharp of Union Town, PA, Martin Gonzalez of Valparaiso, IN, and Renee Schutze of Niles, MI; his grandchildren: Eric, Danielle, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Kennedy, Gage, Hunter, and Vincent; and his great-grandchild, Nevaeh, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Also surviving are his brothers: Richard Gonzalez of Lansing, IL, Robert (Irene) Guerrero of Demotte, IN, Tony (Gracie) Guerrero of Munster, IN, Tony Habrych of New Chicago, IN, and Stan (Jan) Habrych of Demotte, IN, and his sisters: Margie Domiguez of Highland, Aurora Trinidad of St. Joseph, MI, and RoseMarie (Dave) Ederer of Meridian, ID.

He is also preceded in death by his first wife Judith A. Habrych Gonzalez, his brothers, Joey and Victor Guerrero, and by his sisters: Irene and Rachel Gonzalez, Gloria Guerrero, and by his twin sister, Ernestine.

Ernest was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton and was a 4th Degree Knight. He was a proud Airforce veteran and worked as a supervisor at Inland Steel for many years. He was also a wood worker, car aficionado, and an avid Cubs fan. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016, at 11 a.m., at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 638 North Calumet Road, Chesterton. Burial will follow at Saint Paul Cemetery, Valparaiso. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 7, 2016, from 2 until 6 p.m., at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South Second Street, Chesterton.
