Helen Olive Nervik,
age 94 of Chesterton, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at her
daughter’s residence. Helen was born on September 5, 1921 in Friendsville,
Maryland to Harry and Ruth Friend, both of whom preceded her in death. On
February 24, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, she married Clifford R. Nervik, who
preceded her in death on December 31, 1997.
She is survived by
her son, Michael A. (Sharon) Nervik of Benson, Arizona, her daughter, Connie
A. (Jim) Nervik of Chesterton, Indiana, her grandsons, Michael L. (Angel)
Nervik of Tucson, Arizona and Matthew R. Fike of Chesterton, and by her
great-granddaughters, Jocelyn and Juliette Nervik. Also surviving is her
sister, Evelyn R. Fike of Chesterton, Indiana, her brother, Richard E.
Friend of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, her niece, Joyce A. (Jon) Miller of
Chesterton, Indiana, nephew Steven L. (Diane) Fike of Valparaiso, Indiana,
niece Glenda L. (Peter) Romano of San Mateo, California, nephew Robert E.
(Vicki) Ream of Chesterton, Indiana, great-nephews and niece, Nicholas,
Brian and Katie, along with many other nieces and nephews. She is also
survived by her beloved friend Jane House, and her beloved dog, Willy.
She is also
preceded in death by her six brothers and her four sisters.
Helen worked as a
Book Keeper for the Civil Service during WWII.
She was a member of
the Women’s Republican Club of Chesterton. She enjoyed playing Bunco, was an
avid reader, and a dog lover.
Funeral services
will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016, at 10 a.m., at White-Love Funeral
Home, 525 South Second Street, Chesterton, with Pastor Dee Miller
officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will
receive friends on Thursday, June 16, 2016, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., and 6
p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
