Services Friday for Charles Ross 'Opi' Babcock

Charles Ross “Opi” Babcock, age 72, of Portage, IN, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016, in Indianapolis, IN.

He was born on February 11, 1944, in Porter, IN, to Clara (Hall) and Nelson Fernandis Babcock.

Charles is survived by his wife of 48 years, Doris (Thomann) Babcock of Portage; sons, Matthew (Tara) Babcock of Lake Station, Brian (Tracey) Babcock of Chesterton, Kurt (Mendy) Babcock of Bloomington; grandchildren, Courtney, Cassandra, Curtis, Hanna, Myles, Cameron, Josie, Tess, Lily, and Jacquelyn; three great grandchildren; sisters, Colleen (Kenny) Peting of Bay Town, TX, Arla (Harry) Schafnit of AZ; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nelson and David Babcock; and sisters, Marion Barney and Eleanor Blakely.

Charles was a member of Chesterton High School’s class of 1962. He served his country as an M.P. in the United States Army. Charles retired from Bethlehem Steel after over 30 years of service. When his children were younger he was very active in Chesterton Soccer and St. Patrick Catholic Church. In recent years he was a volunteer for the AARP Tax Preparation Service and an active member at the Bonner Senior Center.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 10, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 10, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services at 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Cremation services provided by Heritage Crematory, Portage, IN.
