Service Tuesday for Judith K. Pappas

Judith K. Pappas (nee Schmidt) was born on May 3, 1951, and died on August 23, 2016, of brain cancer at her home in Durham, NC, after an almost two year battle.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Ann and Robert Schmidt and brother, Robert Schmidt.

She is survived by her husband, Tony of 43 years; children Matthew and Ann (Cory) Streger; grandchildren Jackson, Kayla and Brayden; brothers Allen (Karen) Schmidt and Gregory (Lela) Schmidt; sister-in-law, Penny Pappas; and many nieces and nephews.

Judy graduated from Indiana University and then received her Masterís in Education from the University of Illinois, Chicago campus. She worked with special needs children for twenty years and was passionate about her work. She resided in Frankfort, IL, for thirty years prior to a recent move to North Carolina.

She was capable of finding joy in everything and sharing that with her many friends. She loved to watch the whales off the coast of Maui, watch the birds at the bird feeder, and was always excited at the deer running through the yard. She was an avid swimmer, loved to read and travel, enjoyed watching TV, and playing Sudoku and word games.

Friends may visit with her family on Monday, August 29, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave./South St., Crown Point, IN, 46307.

Funeral Prayers will be said on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at 9:15 a.m. at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre in Crown Point, IN, followed by a Memorial Mass at St. Maryís Catholic Church, 321 E. Joliet St., Crown Point, IN, at 10:00 a.m., with Fr. Patrick Kalich officiating. Services will conclude at the church.
