Arthur “Freddy” Frederick Blackard, age 57 of Westville, passed away on September 24, 2016.

He was born to Arthur and Evann (Lorenz) Blackard on December 18, 1958, in Valparaiso, IN.

On October 8, 2011, in Westville, he married Constance “Connie” Huber Blackard, who survives in Westville.

He is also survived by his sons: Michael Blackard of Chesterton and Matthew Blackard (Katty Calderon) of Chesterton; brother, Larry Blackard of Louisiana, half-sister, Julie Shelton; his aunt, Linda Byrt; his cousins, Earl and Karen Brickner of Valparaiso, Brad Brickner, and Ken Lorenz; great-aunt and great-uncle, Madelyn and Charles Lorenz; step-son, Jacob Courtney of Westville; step-daughter, Lucy Courtney of Portage; step-grandchildren: Damion, Kira, and Jerimiah; former wife, Itzel Blackard of Chesterton; and many other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evann (Lorenz) Blackard; his sister, Kathy Blackard; his grandfather, Fred Lorenz; his grandmother, Marjorie Lorenz; his uncle, Michael Lorenz; and great-aunt, Evelyn Brickner.

Freddy was a proud Army Veteran. He owned “Fix-It Freddy’s” which completed household repairs and was also the owner of Flannery’s Tavern in Chesterton. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, beer brewing, and farming. He also loved playing his guitar at Flannery’s.

Private family services are scheduled for a later date.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Jude, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
