Virginia (Ginny) M.
Denewellis (Nee Wicevic), age 90, peacefully went into the arms of the Lord
Jesus, Friday April 1, 2016, the day before her 91st birthday.
beautiful inside and out. She had a giving and loving heart, who always put
others first. Virginia was a fabulous cook and baker. She was adamant about
teaching her recipes to her daughter, daughters-in-law and granddaughters so
they could carry on family traditions. Virginia loved playing cards and
bingo. She passed these passions on to her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, who loved playing games with their “Nonnie and Great
Survived by her two
loving sons Daniel (Sandra) and William (Mary) Denewellis; one loving
daughter Kelly Jo (Keith) Highland; loving daughter-in-law Betsy Denewellis;
grandchildren Mark, Brian and Scott Denewellis; Joy Lukancic, Brynn
Denewellis, Dawn Waters, Meg Denewellis, Dana Gregory, Jill Shutes, Erin
Denewellis and Kristea Stipanovich; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister Mary
Ann Waldvogel; one aunt Anna Bush; two sisters-in law Florence Wicevic and
Marlene Walker; one brother-in-law Joseph Boban. Numerous nieces, nephews,
cousins and close friends also survive.
Preceded in death
by her husband Joseph Denewellis; two sons Joseph A. and Robert Denewellis;
daughter-in-law Carol Denewellis; parents Antone D. and Helen (Goodger)
Wicevic; siblings Isabelle DeSarro, Robert Wicevic, Rita Walker, LeRoy
Wicevic, Helen Bryan and Tony Wicevic (in infancy).
Born in Joliet in
1925 and retiring to Porter, IN, in 1987, Virginia returned to Joliet 11
years ago. Virginia was a member of Pathway Christian Fellowship Church and
the Croatian Cultural Club, and in Porter, IN, she was a member of Royal
Neighbors of America, Hawthorne Park Senior Club, Senior Volunteer Program,
Chesterton Public Library Senior Club, Ladies of the Moose Lodge and Crazy
Eight Pinochle Club.
As per Virginia’s
wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held
on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Pathway Christian Fellowship Church, 19554
NW Frontage Rd., Shorewood, IL. Family will begin greeting guests at 9:00
a.m. and the service will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Private burial will
take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers,
donations in Virginia’s name may be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice or
Pathway Christian Fellowship Church.
