Memorial Celebration of Life April 9 for Daniel A. Quick

Daniel A. Quick was born on February 12, 1954, at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL, and passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2015, in Edina, Minnesota at Fairview Hospital.

Dan was a northwest Indiana resident most of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cheryl M. (Myers) Quick of Minnesota; his mother Norma Skorupa (Jerry) Todd of Chesterton; his brother David (Janet) Quick of Washington; sisters Melinda (Mike) Green of Chesterton, Laura (Mike) Schaffer of Hanna and Lisa Skorupa of Michigan City, IN; sister-in-law Marilyn (Jim) Mondschean of Oak Brook, IL; nieces and nephews S. Olivia Nixon, Justin (SueEllen) Quick, Kristen Morlan, Joshua (Deidre) Nixon, Charles (Lindsay) Morlan, Nicole (Nicholas) Meinert, Kaitlin Schaffer and Joey Mondschen; great nieces and nephews, Charlotte Quick, Joshua II, Chase and Avery Nixon, Natalee and Makenzie Meinert, Madysen Vergon, Logan and Jaxon Morlan, Justin and Emily Morlan. Also very special to Dan were his aunts, Virginia Terrill of Chesterton and Donna Bennett, of Noblesville, IN; uncle Denzil Bennett, who passed away on Dan’s birthday in 2016. A host of other relatives and special Minnesota friends/family--Denny (Jenn) Bennett, Dave Monson, Dean and Dolores Smith, Jon and Virginia Gould, Dillion Allen, Dave and Michelle Gunwall, Wayne and Linda Muxlow.

Dan was preceded in death by his father Lee E. (Jeanne) Quick, Charles Skorupa, uncles and aunts Stan and Wilma Lehnert and John Terrill.

Dan graduated from Kennedy High School in Bloomington, MN in 1972. He completed his Machinist Apprenticeship at Blaw Know, East Chicago, IN, in 1977. Dan’s exciting career began with Mayer Tool and Dye in LaPorte, IN. He loved his career and was most recently employed with GE Power and Water as a Master Field Machinist--previously employed by Orbital Tool Technologies in Belvedere, IL; Checker Machinery in New Hope, MN; MTS Systems in Eden Prairie, MN and Westinghouse Electric, Hobart, IN. There wasn’t a job too big or small for Dan to enjoy working and loved the travel involved, which took him to the countries of Salvador, Turkey, Egypt, Mexico, Canada, Abu Dhabi and many, many other areas and most of the U.S. Dan enjoyed being with his family members, cookouts, traveling and was always looking forward to going to work.

A special Thank You to the many specialists, nurses and other professionals at Porter Regional Hospital ICU and IMCU who were involved in Dan’s care during his illness and multiple stays from May of 2014 to December of 2014.

There will be a Memorial/Celebration of Life Service at the Patricia Smith Banquet Hall at Red Mill County Park in LaPorte, IN, on April 9, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Elizabeth Terrill officiating.

On April 10 family and friends will travel to Ridgelawn Cemetery in Martinsville, IL, where Dan requested to be laid to rest.

Dan had a special project and goal in the works and the family would like to carry this out, and in doing so would appreciate, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Dan’s memory to an “Electric Wheelchair” fund. Please contact a family member for additional information.
