Celebration of Life Sunday for Larry E. May

Larry E. May passed away November 12, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital, in Hobart, IN, from complications of diabetes.

Larry was born Nov. 20, 1947, to the late James and Nancy May, in Logansport, IN.

Larry is survived by his best friend and love of his life, his wife of 30 years, Judy Johnson, step-children Alan Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, and PaPa’s little buddy Jasey Alan Edward Johnson.

He is also survived by children Stephanie May (Randy) Schoolman, of AZ, Cristian (Amy) May, of AZ, Timothy May, of OK, Jenessa (Jim) Janessa, of IL, Aslyn (Rob) Estill, of MN, brother Kenneth (Kelly) May, of Pittsboro, IN, sister Linda May (late Bill) Souder, of Garrett, IN; six grandchildren, a niece, and five nephews.

He was preceded by his parents and grandparents, Flem and Beva May, of Winamac, IN, and Harry and Alice Fisher, of Pulaski, IN, his brother Richard May, one grandchild and a nephew as babies, and many friends.

Larry was always a hard worker. He graduated in 1965 from Star City High School, Star City, IN. He started working in farming on his family’s farm in Winamac, then was a meat cutter at the IGA store in Winamac. He then moved to Chesterton, working at Ruge Meats for 40 years. He was a Chesterton Fire Department volunteer for 20 years, rising to Captain. Larry went to Gary Career Center Ivy Tech to earn an Associates Degree in Fire Science. He then became an ace mechanic at NIPSCO for 31 years at the Valparaiso garage. Larry was an avid hunter in TN, MO, S. Dakota and at home. He loved to fish small lake fish all over. Cooper and Rocket were his faithful companions dogs.

On Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, we will be celebrating his life, on his birthday, with a pot luck at the VFW Post 2511, at 1290 Wagner Rd., Porter, IN, from 2 to 5 p.m. The CFD Chaplain will lead a prayer.
