Visitation and service Tuesday for Margaret L. Demkovich

Margaret L. Demkovich passed away in the company of her children on December 10, 2015 after a long illness.

She was born in Zborov, Czechoslovakia, on December 14, 1924, to Andrew and Maria Litecky, and emigrated to the U.S. in 1929, where the family owned a dairy farm in central New Jersey.

She attended New Jersey State Teacherís College, interrupted her college career to raise five children, and graduated from St. Joseph College in East Chicago, Indiana, with a degree in Sociology.

Margaret was married in 1947 to Paul A. Demkovich, who preceded her in death.

She was a long-time resident of Hammond, Indiana, Schererville, Indiana, and seasonally, Naples, Florida. She retired from a career as a social worker for the state of Indiana.

Margaret is survived by five children: Richard Demkovich of Chesterton, Indiana, Kathryn Momcilovich (Michael) of Schererville; Paul Demkovich (Sheila) of Naples, Florida; Jack Demkovich (Tara) of Algonquin, Illinois; and Marcia Rex (William) of Brownsburg, Indiana; 15 grandchildren: Alex Demkovich (Elise Daxe) of Dune Acres; Mary Beckworth of Flagstaff, Arizona; Jason Momcilovich of Phoenix, Arizona; Eric Momcilovich (Jackie) of Chicago; Bill Rex (Ashley) of Indianapolis; Courtney and Stephanie Rex of Brownsburg; Allison, Sarah, Christopher and Brad Demkovich of Algonquin, Illinois; Amanda, Kim, Melissa and Jorie Demkovich of Naples, Florida; and nine great-grandchildren: Emma and Abbey Beckworth, Dylan Demkovich, Nora and Olive Momcilovich, and Jake, Lily and Charley Pullins.

Margaret was a Master Gardener, a member and past president of the American Association of University Women, and had been a member of both St. John Bosco and St. Thomas More parishes in Hammond and Munster.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Tuesday, December 15, at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet, Avenue, Munster, followed by a Catholic service and internment at Calumet Park Cemetery.
