George E. Fletcher,
age 100 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at the
VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso.
He was born on
September 26, 1915, in Joplin, Missouri to Walter and Mary
Costello-Fletcher, both of whom preceded him in death.
On December 25,
1938, he married Lyola K. Lain-Fletcher, who preceded him in death on May 9,
2015. They were married for seventy-seven years.
He is survived by
his children: Charles (Mary) Fletcher of Valparaiso, Robert Fletcher of Lake
Village, IN, and his daughter, Alice (Pete) Jensen of Fredericksburg, TX.
Also surviving are his daughter-in-law, Joan Fletcher of Chesterton, his
eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
He is also preceded
in death by his sons, George Fletcher and Walter Fletcher, his brothers,
Walter Fletcher and Lynwood Fletcher, and his daughter-in-law, Patty
Fletcher.
George was a
lifelong member of the Calumet Lodge #379 Chesterton, IN, where he was a
past Master. He was a crucial part of building the Masonic Temple in
Chesterton. He worked his entire career at U.S. Steel Gary Works, where he
retired at age 65.
Funeral services
will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at 11 a.m., at White-Love
Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton, with Pastor Dean
Christiansen officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
The family will
receive friends on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, from 4 until 8 p.m., at the
funeral home. There will be a Masonic Service on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the
funeral home.
