Services Thursday for Robert Carl Johnson, Sr.

Robert Carl Johnson, Sr., age 85 of Chesterton, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at his home. He was born on October 4, 1929 in Michigan City, IN to Robert A. and Myrtle Boothroyd Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death.

On June 23, 1951 in Valparaiso, he married Janet R. Johnson who survives in Chesterton. He is also survived by his children: Robert (Karen) Johnson Jr. of Portage, Scott A. Johnson of Chesterton, Karen (John) Taubert of Chesterton, and Sandy Johnson of Chesterton. His grandchildren: Lisa (G) Bury, Lucas (Erica), Isaac, Elliot (Nicole), Cedric (Tayler), Leon (Brittany), Taylor, Isaiah, Miranda, Riley, Leslie, Eli, Holly, Anna (CJ Morse), Kylie (Kevin Heerema), Ian, and Britta; his sixteen great-grandchildren and his two sisters: Doris Dougherty and Gloria Hughart are also surviving.

He is also preceded in death by his son, Dale A. Johnson.

Robert proudly served his country in the Air Force-Airman First Class. He was a graduate of Jackson High School, worked as mechanic and owned a car shop for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 170 and Moose Lodge #1623. Some of his favorite hobbies included: fishing, gardening, cars, dogs, watching the Chicago Cubs, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at 11 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 West 1100 North, Chesterton, with Pastor Erik Grayvold officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Memorial donations may be given to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund.
