Services Thursday for Laura Volk

Laura Ellen Volk, 85, passed away after a short illness at home with her family by her side on Monday, August 31, 2015.

Laura was born August 27, 1930, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to Howard and Vera (Houston) Gibson.

Laura graduated from Dravosburg High School in 1948. She and Robert W. Volk wed on December 20, 1952 and were married for 49 years.

Laura is survived by sons, Robert (Debra) Volk of Chesterton and Richard (Michelle) Volk of Valparaiso; grandchildren, Natalie Honegger (Isaac) of Indianapolis and Drew Volk of Chesterton, and great-granddaughter, Amelia Honegger. Laura is survived by several nieces and nephews, a host of wonderful friends as well as her church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sister, Donna Ferrington.

Laura and her husband moved to Chesterton in 1960. She worked for Duneland School Corporation for more than 28 years. She worked in the Attendance Office at CHS and for many years she was the secretary for the Athletic Department at CHS. She retired in 1994.

Laura is a member of the Chesterton United Methodist Church, volunteered for the Duneland Meals on Wheels, and was an avid bridge player and sports fanatic.

Friends may call on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, located at 525 South Second Street, Chesterton, IN.

A church service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Chesterton at Porter Avenue and Second Street. Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of service. Burial to follow at the Chesterton Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Chesterton Lion’s Club, Duneland Meals on Wheels, Food Pantry, VNA Hospice of Porter County, and the First United Methodist Church.
