Services Thursday for Irvin E. Pope, age 93

Irvin E. Pope, age 93 of Chesterton, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015 at his home. He was born on March 15, 1922 to Herman F. and Carrie B. Lindahl, both of whom preceded him in death.

On August 9, 1944 he married Dorothy J. Keliher, who preceded him in death on February 6, 2011 after 66 years of marriage.

Irvin is survived by his 8 children: Linda (husband Skip) France of Noblesville, Pamela (Tyler), Noel of Niles, Michigan, Larry (Patti) Pope of Valparaiso, Jim (Debbie) Pope of Chesterton, Susan (Douglas) Betz of Chesterton, Teresa (Bill) Black of Chesapeake, Virginia, Tim (Laurie) Pope of Breckenridge, Colorado, and Philip (Juli) Pope of LaPorte; his 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He is also preceded in death by his sister, Anna Morthland.

He was a loving and caring husband and father. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He graduated from Liberty Center High School and spent his entire life farming in Liberty Township. He also drove a bus for many years for Duneland Schools Corp. He was an avid sports fan and he especially loved watching the Chicago Cubs.

Irvin was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was also a member of their senior club. He served on ASC, Agriculture Stabilizing Committee, and on the Porter County Drainage board for many years. He was also a Little League baseball coach and was a 4H leader.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at 10 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 North Calumet Road, Chesterton, with Father James Meade officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, from 4-8 p.m., at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton.
