Gay Gaydos Murphy,
age 92, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015.
Gay was born on
March 5, 1922 in Gary, Indiana, to Anna (Mislan) and Paul Gaydos (Gaidash).
Gay is survived by
her daughter, Shannon G. Murphy of Petaluma, California; grandchildren, Kara
Anne Rodenhizer-Stampfli of Deerfield, New Hampshire, John S. Rodenhizer II,
and Thomas R. Rodenhizer of North Hollywood, California; great-grandson,
Aiden A. Stampfli of Deerfield, New Hampshire; sister, Anne Hattery, of
Valparaiso, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.
Gay was preceded in
death by her husband, Lt. Commander Thomas (Tom) J. Murphy; son, Brian T.
Murphy; parents, Anna and Paul Gaydos; sisters, Julia Cebulky and Helen
Klich; and brother, Paul Gaydos.
Gay attended Lew
Wallace High School and Gary College. She worked for the Carnegie-Illinois
Steele Corporation before becoming an airline stewardess at United Airlines
in 1948. In 1956, Gay turned in her wings for bridal gown after meeting her
husband, Tom in Arlington, VA. She married a few weeks later, on June 2,
1956 in Tokyo, Japan aboard the U.S.S. Reaper. Gay traveled the world with
her husband living overseas in Japan, London, Istanbul, and Turkey. She also
resided in Norfolk, Virginia, Woodbridge, Connecticut, West Falmouth,
Massachusetts, and finally settled in Chesterton, Indiana, in 2005.
Gay was a loving
wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her passions were her
family, reading, entertaining, and telling her grandchildren about her
worldly travels and falling in love with their grandfather.
Visitation will be
held Thursday, January 22, 2015, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the White Love
Funeral Home, 525 South Second Street, Chesterton, Indiana.

Burial will take
place at Arlington National Cemetery in Fort Meyer, Virginia, at a later
