Earl J. Graves, age 83 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on February 27, 2015.

He was born on January 8, 1932, in Hanceville, Alabama, to Gurdis and Montez (Smith) Graves.

Earl is survived by his sons, Jeff Graves of Ronan, MT, and Jerry (Lynn) Graves of Chesterton, IN; daughters, Judy Graves of Chesterton, IN, Susan (Robert) Sternberg of Houston, TX, and Patty Izzi of Ronan, MT; brother, Euel (Donna) Graves of Kalamazoo, MI; 9 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy Graves; sister, Elmer Graves; and brothers, Ellis, Olvin and Pete Graves.

Earl served his country in the United States Army. He retired from U.S. Steel, working as a Ladle Crane Operator, in 1988. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 2511, American Legion Post 170, Moose Lodge 1623, Dunes Masonic Lodge 741, Shriners Orak Temple in Michigan City, IN, and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 1401 W Porter Ave, Chesterton, IN, with Pastor Larry Starett officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN.

Visitation will also be held on Saturday at First Baptist Church from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
