Kenneth F. Appel Jr., age 65 of Chesterton, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, in Valparaiso.

He was born on April 22, 1950 in Gary, IN, to Kenneth F. Appel Sr. and Gloria LaForce- Appel, both of whom preceded him in death.

On August 15, 1981, in Valparaiso he married Georgianna Uskuraitis-Appel, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by his children: Abbie (Charlie) Simmons of Boca Raton, FL, Susan (Dan) Appel-DiCharia of South Bend, Jessica (Travis) Kadish of Westville, and Rachael (Jim) Manney of Porter.

His grandchildren: Benjamin Appel, Aryel DiCharia, Drew Manney and Annabella Kadish, his two great-grandchildren, Emmett and Kristopher Hernthaisong and his siblings: Rhea Hanifl of Bakersfield, CA and Jim (Joyce) Appel of Valparaiso, along with his several nieces and nephews and his personal assistant, Sandy Gagliano of Chesterton, are also surviving.

He worked as an Instrument Electrician at BP Amoco for over 30 years.

Ken was a great Storyteller. He was greatly known for his ability to make people laugh.

He loved spending time with his family and he truly loved his work family. Golfing, fishing and bird watching on his deck were some of his favorite hobbies.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015, at 11 a.m., at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton, with Father Jerry Schweitzer officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 3, 2015, from 2 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
