Back To Front Page

Shirley Peet Walton passed away in her home on November 25, 2015. Shirley was born on August 28, 1952, in Gary, IN, to John L. and Marjorie Finnerty Peet.

She was preceded in death by both parents and her son, Jason T. Walton of Charleston, SC, who died in Afghanistan.

Shirley is survived by daughters: Quinn (David) Ales of Valparaiso, IN, and Veronica Walton of Madison, WI; grandchildren: Brooke Ales, Jason Ales, and Aurora Doud; sisters: Mavis (Gerald) Lehmann of Ogden Dunes, IN and Marilee (Michael) Fiore of Ashland, VA; plus her beloved pug, Harley.

After graduating from Andrean High School in 1969, Shirley achieved a Bachelorís in Nursing from the University of Notre Dame in a short three and a half years. Shortly thereafter, she married Dr. William B. Walton, with whom she had her three children. After several years of working for Methodist hospital Gary Campus, Shirley furthered her education at Valparaiso University where she earned a Master of Science in Nursing. She worked in several fields before landing on her favorite specialty: orthopedics. At the height of her career, she earned the Nurse of the Year award from Methodist Hospitals just before retiring in 2003. She continued to tap into her nursing instinct by spoiling her pets and grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved her family and animals unconditionally.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN, with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on December 4, 2015, at the funeral home. Cremation services will be provided by Heritage Crematory, Portage, IN.
