Service Wednesday, December 16 for Karin Scheerer

Back To Front Page

Karin Scheerer, a true queen of the beach, dog lover, and friend to everyone she met, died Wednesday December 9, 2015, at her home in Riley, Indiana. She was 62.

Karin was born on April 15, 1953, to Robert Frederick and Marjorie Jean (Owen) Scheerer (both preceded in death) who lovingly raised her on North Lake Street in Miller, Indiana. Karin frequently reminisced fondly about her childhood there with her three siblings Rick (Allison), Holly, and Michael (Laura). Karin's siblings blessed her with nieces and nephews Amber (Tony), Josh, Erin (Alec), Ashley (Johnny), Shannon (Chris), and great-nephews Malakai and Hunter. Karin also shared her home with her incredible dogs Etta Mae, Archie, and Abby Autumn.

After Karin finished high school at William A. Wirt, her life's journey proudly took her to a long career with GTE in Terre Haute. That career led her to her treasured 35 year friendship with John Mac Powell of Linton, Indiana. After recently retiring she hung up her work boots, both literally and figuratively. In memory of the years she spent at the job she loved, she decoratively hung those boots from the ceiling of her gorgeous sun room, just as children throw gym shoes over power lines on the street. It was this creative, elective, artsy, welcoming, warm, kind, gentle, strong, independent, organized, reliable, detailed nature that forced everyone to love Karin.

Karin was also passionate about preserving history. She loved genealogy. Just a brief walk through her home was a family history lesson with original photos of multiple generations on the walls. She also kept meticulous photo albums of current family. Along with this, passing on family traditions and values were very important to Karin. She kept detailed calendars, never forgetting an event, always sending the most personalized gifts and cards to celebrate with you near or far.

On Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at 11 a.m. the family and friends of Karin Jean Scheerer will celebrate with her at the final resting place, Chesterton Cemetery, at Porter Ave. and State Road 49, in Chesterton, Indiana. All are welcome to join in the celebration of her life.
