Karin Scheerer, a
true queen of the beach, dog lover, and friend to everyone she met, died
Wednesday December 9, 2015, at her home in Riley, Indiana. She was 62.
Karin was born on
April 15, 1953, to Robert Frederick and Marjorie Jean (Owen) Scheerer (both
preceded in death) who lovingly raised her on North Lake Street in Miller,
Indiana. Karin frequently reminisced fondly about her childhood there with
her three siblings Rick (Allison), Holly, and Michael (Laura). Karin's
siblings blessed her with nieces and nephews Amber (Tony), Josh, Erin
(Alec), Ashley (Johnny), Shannon (Chris), and great-nephews Malakai and
Hunter. Karin also shared her home with her incredible dogs Etta Mae,
Archie, and Abby Autumn.
finished high school at William A. Wirt, her life's journey proudly took her
to a long career with GTE in Terre Haute. That career led her to her
treasured 35 year friendship with John Mac Powell of Linton, Indiana. After
recently retiring she hung up her work boots, both literally and
figuratively. In memory of the years she spent at the job she loved, she
decoratively hung those boots from the ceiling of her gorgeous sun room,
just as children throw gym shoes over power lines on the street. It was this
creative, elective, artsy, welcoming, warm, kind, gentle, strong,
independent, organized, reliable, detailed nature that forced everyone to
Karin was also
passionate about preserving history. She loved genealogy. Just a brief walk
through her home was a family history lesson with original photos of
multiple generations on the walls. She also kept meticulous photo albums of
current family. Along with this, passing on family traditions and values
were very important to Karin. She kept detailed calendars, never forgetting
an event, always sending the most personalized gifts and cards to celebrate
with you near or far.
December 16, 2015, at 11 a.m. the family and friends of Karin Jean Scheerer
will celebrate with her at the final resting place, Chesterton Cemetery, at
Porter Ave. and State Road 49, in Chesterton, Indiana. All are welcome to
join in the celebration of her life.
